local support - feeding
breastfeeding can be incredibly overwhelming, and, much like birth, you might find yourself infiltrated with stories of failure, pain and disappointment. if you are able to prepare yourself with a little knowledge and the practicalities of where to turn for advice, should you need it, before having your baby, this can make a huge difference to be able to follow your preferences in your own, individual feeding journey. we have an amazing network within our local community, to help you if you are experiencing any problems or uncertainties. it’s always so helpful to be able to speak with someone face to face, and to simply be around other mothers who are breastfeeding their own babies can be incredibly uplifting, suddenly you don’t feel so alone.
there is a great list compiled by the NHS listing local support services throughout Surrey. there is a group close to you every day of the week should you need it, you can find the list here - https://childrenshealthsurrey.nhs.uk/services/infantfeeding
of course it’s very easy to slip into unfathomable depths of a google search in the small hours of the morning, whilst lost in those marathon feeds! i have personally found the following websites invaluable for unbiased information and reassurance;
La Leche League - they also have a UK support line you can call 0345 120 2918
below is a list with links to breastfeeding groups which i often signpost to for local support. i do aim to keep this list updated, but please do check the group is running beforehand, and if you find any errors on this list, please do let me know so i can update it for others.
